ADCSC Opens Its Doors for a High-Octane "Best Foot Forward" Session

We were buzzing with energy on Saturday, 28th February, as we hosted the latest Best Foot Forward (BFF) training day. While our colleagues at Clyde Munro headlined the session, we were thrilled to welcome a wider circle of talent, including many "plus-one" VDP guests who joined their peers for a day of intensive clinical development.

The day was a masterclass in the two essential pillars of modern restorative dentistry: clinical photography and rubber dam isolation.

Watch the highlights from the day below

Collaborative Excellence in Our Clinical Skills Centre

As a premier hub for dental education, the ADCSC was designed for days like this—where the next generation of dental talent can experiment, learn from setbacks, and ultimately succeed in a low-pressure, high-resource environment.

The session focused on moving beyond basic theory to achieve true clinical mastery:

The Power of the Lens: Practitioners took over our lab stations to master intra-oral DSLR photography. The focus was on precise settings and lighting to ensure better diagnostics and seamless patient communication.

Isolation Excellence: We saw incredible focus during the deep dive into rubber dam techniques. Our facilities allowed VDPs to practice the fine art of achieving the "perfect dry field," an essential skill for streamlining workflows.

Hands-on Mentorship: It was a privilege to host expert Clyde Munro clinicians Dr Greg Bowes and Dr Rebecca Reid who provided one-on-one guidance, ensuring every participant—whether a Clyde Munro VDP or a guest—left with newfound confidence.

The BFF Atmosphere: Building a Community

The "Best Foot Forward" ethos is about more than just technical precision; it’s about the culture of the profession. By inviting "plus-one" VDP friends, the session transformed into a vibrant networking event, fostering a spirit of collaboration across the Scottish dental community.

"The ADCSC is proud to be the home for these sessions," says Jo Hood "Seeing VDPs from different backgrounds come together to raise the standard of patient care is exactly why this facility exists."

The day proved that while the technical skills are vital, the support network you build is what truly sustains a career in dentistry."
